One of the first questions people ask us is why did we partner with the Mission of Hope: Haiti and why do we give scholarships instead of products? We started with the vision that our business could be an opportunity to strengthen communities. Our staff had families where parents worked multiple jobs, had rounds of unemployment, and felt trapped in careers because they didn't have the skills to change.
We like to say that we view our mission and our business equally. We are passionate about providing high quality, hybrid mattresses and bedding so that we can provide scholarships and funding to vocational and technical schools. Providing permanent, tangible skills instead of products enables people to support themselves, their families, and their communities.
Mission of Hope: Haiti has an amazing educational success story and could not be a better partner. Their long-term commitment to Haiti has resulted in establishing 22 schools, more than 10,500 students educated, and just in 2017, over 300 teachers trained!
Leveraging their reputation and success at the primary school level, Mission of Hope launched their technical school in 2017 focusing on HVAC, plumbing, welding, and electrical skills. High demand has created a long waiting list for students to become certified. Bolster Sleep Company’s partnership funds scholarships, accelerates campus expansions, and enables additional technical skill programs, such as diesel automotive training.
Many companies provide products to organizations and communities. We intentionally made the decision to not do that. Why? Well, products can break, wear out, get lost, and become outdated. Ultimately products do not create life change, they just provide temporary relief, at best. Education, on the other hand, is a permanent gift that can not be lost, broken, or taken away. Allowing someone to work for themselves can create a generational impact as many technical skills can be passed down from one person to another. We belief the local community is more adept determining the skills needed, than for us to send products we feel they need.
Is this our only partnership? Absolutely not! We are excited and motivated to create partnerships with other domestic and international organizations that advance education as a way of empowering people to strengthen themselves, their families, and their communities.
